Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) makes his feature directorial debut with BREATHE, an inspirational true story of love without limits based on a script by twice Academy Award-nominated writer William Nicholson (Everest, Les Misérables and Gladiator).
Adventurous and charismatic, Robin (Academy Award nominee Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge, Silence) has his whole life ahead of him when he is paralysed by polio while in Africa and given just months to live. Against all advice, his wife Diana (Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, The Crown, Wolf Hall) brings him home from hospital where her devotion and witty determination inspire him to lead a long and fulfilled life. Together they refuse to be limited by expectations, dazzling others with their humour, courage and lust for life.
Based on the true story of producer Jonathan Cavendish’s own parents, BREATHE shows how Robin’s handling of and reaction to his illness had a huge impact on mobility and access for the disabled. It is a heart-warming and highly emotional celebration of bravery and human possibility, a love story about living every breath as though it’s your last.
